Travel 2015: Climb: Mt Maculot, Cuenca, Batangas
23 Comments
Let's start this year with a mountain adventure at Mt. Maculot, Cuenca, Batangas!
Mt Maculot - Rockies, Cuenca, Batangas
Major Jumpoff: Mountaineer's Store, Brgy. 7 "Siete", Cuenca
LLA: 13°55 N; 121°2 E; 706 MASL (Rockies)
Days required / Hours to Rockies: 1 day / 1-2 hr
Specs: Minor, Difficulty 3/9 (Rockies)
*Details from http://www.pinoymountaineer.com/2007/08/mt-maculot-685.html
How to get there
Mt Maculot is very accessible from Manila. Take a Lemery-bound bus from Buendia or Cubao (bus fare is around PHP150). Tell the conductor to drop you off at Poblacion in Cuenca, Batangas. From there, you can walk or hire a tricycle to take you to the Registration Area near the Barangay Hall. You need to pay PHP20 each for the registration. One person from your group needs to leave a valid ID. Take note that groups are not allowed to trek without a local guide, thus, you need to hire one (400-500 pesos for dayhike).
The trail
In terms of difficulty, Mt Maculot is a minor climb. If you have been to other mountains, the trek going up the Rockies will just be a piece of cake for you. Also, the various stops/resting stations makes it a good trail for beginners. There are also buko juice vendors along the trail if you need some refreshments.
Once you have reached this point in the campsite, you can already see the Rockies area. From the name itself, this part is pretty rocky so be careful with your steps.
The view atop was really captivating! You can see the green forest on one side. On the other, you can see the famous Taal Volcano surrounded by Taal Lake. The wind was strong but it was very refreshing. Amazing, indeed! :)
I promised myself that I will go back to Mt Maculot to try the traverse. Wanna join? :)

I wonder if there are any Cuenca-bound buses in Coastal Mall, Pasay.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tips! :)
I didn't notice Lemery/Cuenca-bound trips when I went to the terminal in Coastal mall last month. I suggest to just go to the terminals in Buendia or Cubao, just to be sure :)
