Travel 2015: Climb: Mt Manabu, Sto. Tomas, Batangas
12 Comments
My first solo hike at Mt Manabu, Sto. Tomas, Batangas.
Mt. Manabu, Sto Tomas, Batangas
Jump-off point: Sulok, Brgy. Sta Cruz, Sto. Tomas
LLA: 13.9777°, 121.2413°, 760 MASL
Days required / Hours to summit: 1 day / 1-2 hours
Specs: Minor climb, Difficulty 2/9, Trail class 1-2
*Details from http://www.pinoymountaineer.com/2007/08/manabu-peak-760.html
How to get there
Mt Manabu is another mountain that is very accessible from Manila. Take a Lipa-bound bus from Buendia or Cubao. Alight at the bus stop in Lipa near the STAR Tollway. From there, hire a tricycle to Sulok in Brgy, Sta Cruz. Tell the driver that you are going to Mt Manabu so he can take you to the barangay hall for registration before dropping you at the jump-off point.
The trail
Manabu is said to be abbreviated from "Mataas na Bundok". It is not required to hire a guide but since I am alone and it was a rainy day, I decided to hire one for PHP500. There are 8 stations going to reach the summit (see trail guide below). You can follow the stations numerically or you may opt to go straight to the Grotto from station 4.
Mt Manabu's trail is pretty easy. What I liked most about this mountain is that the trail is very refreshing. The shades of the green forest is relaxing to the eyes. The trail is surrounded by tall trees and green plants. A breathe of fresh air, indeed!
It took me less than two hours to reach the peak. Manabu's highest point is marked with a large white cross. The top of the mountain is like a big garden overlooking the municipalities of Batangas and the other surrounding mountains like Malipunyo, Maculot and Makiling.
Because of the continuous rain, it was very cold and foggy when I reached the top. Nonetheless, the view was still amazing and the experience itself was very fulfilling. Hooray for my first solo climb! :)

If you need a guide, I recommend Kuya Dodong Jacquez. He is very kind and accomodating and he knows the mountain pretty well. Contact him at 09239376699.

DeleteHello.. We are planning to go there this coming june 28.. it's our 1st time in mt. Manabu. We are from general trias cavite.. how to go there and do we need to rent guide?thanks :)
ReplyDeleteHi Anne! From GenTri, I think there are vans from Pala-pala to Lipa. Or you may also opt to go to Alabang then ride a Lipa-bound Bus from there. Also, guides are not required in Manabu :)
DeleteGood am po, ask ko lang how difficult yung trail? Kasi we are looking for a hike na pwede isama 3.5 yr old namin..ang magiging plan is piggyback sya ni dad sa assault (marami bang uphill duon?)
ReplyDeleteHello Mary! Wow! It's a good thing you are engaging your kid sa mountaineering as early as now. With regards dun sa trail, beginner friendly naman sya. Hindi naman mahirap ung mga assault so I think kaya naman kahit may kasama kayong bata :)
