How to get there

From the FX Terminal in front of Jollibee - Cubao Farmers, ride an FX going to Montalban, Rizal. Tell the driver to drop you off near the Total gas station. From there, ask the locals where the tricycle terminal going to Brgy Mascap is. You can rent the tricycle for PHP150. Alight at Brgy Mascap Municipal Hall.

The trail

Rodriguez, Rizal is now a haven for outdoor enthusiasts looking for quick adventure near the Metro. There are mountains open for hikers that are accessible in the area. Just recently, the authorities in Rodriguez have divided the ownership of the mountains to two Barangays. The jump off going to Binacayan, Pamitinan and Hapunang Banoi will be from Brgy Wawa. On the other hand, the jump off to Sipit Ulang and Ayaas will be from Brgy Mascap. It is not allowed to traverse from Brgy Wawa to Mascap and vice versa anymore.

During my latest climb, our group decided to explore Mt Ayaas. Standing 627 MASL, Mt Ayaas is the highest among the five mountains in the vicinity.

Unlike the other mountains in Rodriguez, Mt Ayaas does not feature boulders or rock formation. Its trail has a distinctive grassland slope. The way to the summit is mostly uphill so prepare your legs and lungs for the long assaults. Going to the summit, you will have to pass through a banana plantation then through the uphill wide road. There is also a short portion where you have to pass through cliffs so be careful.

You would know that the peak is near once you have crossed a fence. It took us almost two hours to reach the summit of Mt Ayaas.

At the top, there is an abandoned hut which serves as a resting place for the mountaineers. The view at the summit is astonishing! It offers a 360 degree scenic view of the surroundings. The other mountains near the area like Pamitinan, Binacayan and Hapunang Banoi are also visible from the peak. One of the distinct attraction is the cogon terraces.

If you want an easy, chill climb, explore Mt Ayaas! You will surely love the view at the top! :)
