Travel 2017: Hong Kong - Lion Rock to Amah Rock Trail and The Peak
0 Comments
Day 2. Hong Kong - Macau solo backpacking trip.
Continuing my backpacking adventure, I decided to hike one of the famous trails in Hong Kong. Afterwards, I went to The Peak to witness the big city's skyline.
Note that if you want to consider this in your itinerary, you have to be physically fit as this is really a long walkathon.
LION ROCK TO AMAH ROCK TRAIL
Being the mountaineer that I am, I couldn't let this vacation end without trekking one of Hong Kong's trails -- the Lion Rock trail. The trail offers the best panoramic view of Kowloon.
How to get there?
Take the MTR to Won Tai Sin station, Exit B3. From there, walk under the walkway opposite the Temple Mall North entrance.
Go up the stairs and you will notice this big space crowded with people. Just walk forward until you reach this terminal of green minibuses. From here, you will see the sign "Shatin Pass Road". Follow this sign.
As you continue walking, you will also notice that the road will start to incline. This means that you are in the right way. Just continue walking along the Shatin Pass Road for some more minutes. You will pass through a Chinese temple on your left. From here, the road will become steeper.
More trees and greens will cover the road as you become nearer to the jump off point. It will take you almost an hour walk from Won Tai Sin station to the Lion Rock Country Park entrance (you will see this on the left side of the road).
The trail
The way up the Lion Rock is established. There are signs on where you should go so you will not get lost.
The assault may be tiring for you so make sure to take a few stop to rest and drink water.
It took me almost an hour to reach the top of the Lion Rock. Unfortunately, there was no clearing. It was raining hard and the fog covered all the view.
Good thing, I met two hikers along the trail. I tagged along with them and we decided to traverse to the Amah Rock Trail. Again, we just followed the signs. Took us another hour to reach the peak. Hooray! We were rewarded with this view of the city.
After some rest and picture taking, we decided to go down. The trail down took us to Hung Miu Kuk Barbeque Area which is near the station where we took a bus going back to Causeway Bay.
VICTORIA PEAK or THE PEAK
Definitely the most popular tourist destination in Hong Kong, The Peak offers the best view of Central, Victoria Harbour and the surrounding island.
How to get there?
There are several ways on how to get to The Peak. As for me, I decided to take the Peak Tram. I availed the Peak Tram Fast-Track combo from Klook for less hassle. I took the 5PM schedule. The meeting place is at the Central Station, Exit K. From there, we walked to the Peak Tram station.
Since I availed the fast-track ticket, we did not line up anymore. We were ushered to the tram platform and waited for the next ride.
The peak tram ride is steep and fast. For just 7 minutes, we already reached The Peak.
What to do?
From the Peak, there are various activities you can do. You can shop, eat and stroll around. Also, you can get tickets to Madame Tussauds Wax Museum, Trick Eye Museum and Sky Terrace 428. My voucher from Klook included a free pass to the Sky Terrace 428 which is at the top floor of the building.
Sky Terrace 428 offers a 360-degree view of Hong Kong. Despite the rain and mist, the skyline is still awesome!
After The Peak, if you are still not tired, you can go around Central and visit Lan Kwai Fong, Hong Kong's most popular party life destination.
