How to get there
Take a Ternate-bound bus from the Provincial Bus Terminal in Coastal. Fare is around PHP80. Alight at the bus terminal in Ternate. From there, hire a tricycle that will take you to the jump-off point -- the DENR Ternate Station. Normal tricycle hire rate is at PHP250.
The trail
Pico de Loro, also known as Mt Palay Palay, is very popular for day hikes because of its accessible location (near Metro Manila) and its beginner-friendly trail.
I am on a graveyard shift and it is a holiday. An hour before end of shift, two of my officemates, out of nowhere, suggested that we climb a mountain on the same day. I had my running attire and shoes with me because I was supposed to hit the gym so I said "Why not? Let's go!".
A couple of hours later, we found ourselves writing our names in the Log Sheet of DENR, the jump-off point of Pico de Loro. The trail going to the campsite is very easy compared to the mountains I have been before. It is surrounded by tall trees and green plants which makes the trek chill and refreshing. Guides are not required but if you are a beginner and you are planning to climb the monolith as well, I recommended you to hire one.
It just took us one hour and a half with one quick water rest to get to the campsite. We were welcomed by the cool strong wind that could almost blow me away!
It took us another 10-15 minutes to reach the peak overlooking the monolith of Pico de Loro. It was very exhilarating on top because of the cool wind and amazing view.
Climbing mountains never fails to give me such a fulfilling and liberating feeling! I just love it on top! ;)

Unfortunately, the weather did not permit us to climb the monolith. I will definitely go back for it! Let's? :)
