How to get there

The jump off of Sipit Ulang is the same as that of Mt Ayaas.

From the FX Terminal in front of Jollibee - Cubao Farmers, ride an FX going to Montalban, Rizal. Tell the driver to drop you off near the Total gas station. From there, ask the locals where the tricycle terminal going to Brgy Mascap is. You can rent the tricycle for PHP150. Alight at Brgy Mascap Municipal Hall.

The trail

Sipit ulang means "crab's claw". It is named so because of the claw-like formation of the rocks at the summit. Just like the other mountains in Rodriguez, Rizal, Mt Sipit Ulang has a rocky trail with limestone formation.

There are two trails in Mt Sipit Ulang. The first one is the "Paniki" or super trail. This is the route which we took to ascend. This trail is longer and more challenging but it is exciting. It is very rocky with areas where you need to pass through caves and go up on make shift ladders. There are also jagged rock formations so you have to be ready with your rock climbing skills. If you will plan to go up using this trail, don't forget your gloves as there are times where you have to grip on sharp rocks edges.

The scenery at the peak is as breathtaking as the other mountains around Rizal. There is a 360-degree view of the surrounding towns and mountains. From the peak, neighboring mountains like Ayaas, Haponang Banoi, Binacayan and Pamitinan are visible. However, if there are a lot of hikers during the day of your climb, the guides will be limiting the viewing time per group at the summit.

The second trail which is the one we took going down is called the "Banayad" trail. It is easier compared to the super trail. No need to pass through caves or rocky areas. The trail is open, forested and just pure descend.
