How to get there

We wanted to get there earliest time possible to witness the sea of clouds so our group opted to go there via private vehicle. But if you want to get there via public transport, you can ride an FX from Cubao Terminal to Cogeo, Antipolo. Once in Cogeo, ride a Sampaloc-bound jeepney and tell the driver to drop you off at Batangasan. From there, ride a tricycle going to the jump off point in Brgy. Cayabu.

The trail

Who said you have to go far from Manila to see a sea of clouds? Just less than 3 hours away is the newly opened mountain in Tanay, Rizal, Mt Maynuba. The Maynuba Circuit includes climbing Mt Cayabu and Mt Maynuba plus a chance to explore the 8 waterfalls along the trail.

The trail going up the summit is established. With a pretty straightforward trail and minor assaults, I would recommend it for beginners.

The first part of the trail is a forested area similar to that of Mt Maculot. The trail will be dominated by high grasses once you've approached the summit. Going up the peak would entail walking on a ridge like that of Mt Batulao.

The trail going down is more challenging as you have to trek on rocks and boulders  to pass through the 8 waterfalls. If its rainy, the trail can become very muddy. You also have to be careful as the rocks can be very slippery.

Overall, I would consider this hike as one of the most memorable. This is the first time that I was able to witness a sea of clouds on top of the mountain. It was spectacular!

Note: You have to pay for an environmental fee of PHP20. For dayhike, tour guide will cost you PHP500 per 5 pax. Overnight rate is PHP1250.
